Emergency Fund: Personal Finance Blog Archives

Posted on June 8, 2007

Everyone that has read even a few personal finance blogs has come across the popular “How to Start an Emergency Fund” post.  It’s typically an insightful read as you can learn a lot about the writer’s saving philosophy.  Some say to save a modest amount (about $1000 or less) in an emergency fund and use a home equity loan or low interest credit card as backup.  Others believe in the traditional three to six month emergency fund in a conservative yet safe savings account.  I would say that the decision of how much should be weighed on an individual basis, but I would lean more to the conservative approach of saving close to three months pay for an emergency fund.    I have collected from many blog archives the best emergency fund posts I have read over the last year or so.
