Lower Your Cable and Internet Bill Today
Posted on July 8, 2007
I had a promotional price for cable and internet services through Brighthouse Cable (TimeWarner) for the past year that recently expired. The expiration of the promotional price caused my cable to go up by about $25 a month. Procrastinating a few months I paid the extra money and finally decided to give them a call based on customer service blog posts I saw here, here, and here. I called Brighthouse Cable and the conversation went something like this after going through the menus and being on hold for about five minutes:
Customer Service: Brighthouse Cable, How may I help you?
Me: I would like to discuss my cable and internet package.
Customer Service: I see you have the 8Mbps high speed internet and digital cable package.
Me: Yes, that is correct and recently my bill went up about $25 as a promotional price expired that I had for the past year. I have checked into a DSL and Satellite TV package that would save me approximately $30 a month. Do you have any prices that could match that?
Customer Service: I see we have new promotion that just started that includes the same 8Mbps high speed internet and digital cable package for $25 cheaper than your most recent bill and also saves you $50 off your first month.
Me: That would be great please sign me up as long as my services will not be changing.
Customer Service: That is correct, your services will not be changing. I will switch you over immediately and you will see this package reflected in your next bill. Is there anything else I can do for you today?
Me: No, that will be it, thank you for your time.
I know that all the frugal bloggers out there repeatedly state you should cancel your cable service and save the money. In my opinion the $70 a month I spend on cable is a fair price as it provides hours of entertainment and relaxation for both me and my girlfriend. At this point unfortunately life without a DVR would be somewhat difficult for the both of us. The point of the post is why not take the 15 minutes and give your cable and internet provider a call to let them know there are other options out there.
